The Last Invasion

Chapter Nine

Martin went into what can only be called a mental preoccupation. He was depressed and yet his mind was running at full speed. He said almost nothing that evening and just sat by the fire. Laura heated up some rice and beans she had made on Sunday and they shared a supper. He looked at his pocket watch and it was 6:45. Pretty soon he would be heading over to Courtney’s house. It was further away than Bill’s and he was nervous to get underway. He had to locate the place also, so he kissed Laura goodbye and went walking. “4005 Capricorn,” he whispered to himself, “let’s see... oh yeah, that way.”

He was disturbed. That had been his usual state since the invasion but this time some frightening pieces to the puzzle were starting to draw an ugly picture. If the resistance was planning on using the disintegration weapon to attack the electrogravitic craft when it was parked in Riverview, he wondered if it would kill the crew and innocent bystanders as well. If so, that would be an act of terrorism and he doubted that the so-called patriotic military minds of the resistance, who were so keen for this act of revenge, cared much about collateral damage. What if they decided to destroy it when dozens of citizens were onboard taking a tour with perhaps hundreds more waiting in line? What if the suicide patriot had some way of smuggling the weapon on board and does the act from inside the craft during one of the tours? This really bothered him. As horrible and dictatorial as the Red Chinese are, I simply cannot participate in acts of terrorism.

Of course if he was to somehow tell the authorities, he would become a traitorous informant and they would disintegrate everybody including him too, since he was now connected with the resistance. So, he was really faced with a terrible moral dilemma. He couldn’t allow such slaughter to happen, yet getting involved with the authorities would mean certain death. Martin did not know when they planned to carry the suicide attack out. According to Bill and to the re-education Cadre as well, this electrogravitic ship was suppose to be around for awhile. No doubt the resistance would thoroughly case the situation first and that would take a little time, so it was doubtful and unlikely that the suicide patriot, whoever he may be, would try to pull off the attack on the very first day. But how long would they wait? They did have to find out how that disintegration weapon operates. They might blow themselves up just testing it. Martin wondered if Bill himself had volunteered as the suicide attacker. On the other side of the coin, he also wondered if Bill might be a Red mole. He almost has the mind-set, he thought as he remembered Bill’s fanatical attitude. Well, to tell the truth, not ‘almost’ when you look it truthfully. But regardless of who was designated to carry out the suicide mission, it appeared that not only the crew would die but quite likely hundreds of the citizens of Riverview also. This was just impossible to take. He didn’t know what to do. How did I get myself into this mess?

The further Martin went, the more distressed he became. Finally, he pulled out a cigarette and walked along puffing. He turned up Capricorn and began to look for an address. It was the 3800 block and the numbers were ascending, so he knew he was headed in the right direction. Two blocks later he could see 4005 three houses up on the left. He looked around and no one else was on the streets. As he neared the house he realized that it was set back a ways from the street so he felt no need to follow any further precautions, except to glance around one last time.

He went up the fairly hidden walkway to the front door and knocked twice. Courtney answered immediately. “Hi Martin, come right in.”

Courtney seemed entirely unparanoid and relaxed, so Martin felt immediately relaxed also. Courtney introduced his wife, Natalie who seemed very nice. She excused herself, saying that she was busy mending a coat for her little boy and would leave the two men to talk. They sat down at a small kitchen table.

Courtney handed Martin a thick manual. On the cover it said, Remote Viewing, The Process and the Implications.

“Take this home and read it when you can,” Courtney said, “it will give you the RV protocols and how to practice."

Martin felt completely relaxed around Courtney. He even thought that perhaps they could be good friends. He didn’t know why but he trusted him.

“Those magnets were something else,” said Martin.

“Yeah. They would have figured it out on their own but I wanted to meet the group face to face and see what’s going on. Now we know, don’t we?”

“Pretty much... but we have to fill in the blanks.”

“Yeah, there are blanks, lots of them, but it is pretty obvious where they are headed. Not where I wish to go.”

“Me neither,” said Martin. He was glad to hear Courtney’s words and felt somewhat relieved. He wasn’t the only one that didn’t buy the goods.

“Let me tell you a bit about myself,” said Courtney.

Martin was surprised to hear him say that because lately everyone had been so secretive and covert. He himself was starting to get into a black-ops frame of mind. “Don’t tell me too much,” Martin said, “you might have to kill me.”

Courtney laughed. “If we are going to be doing RV together and gathering intelligence on this fubar mess, we will best do it in transparency with each other.”

“So, tell me.”

“I was a professional Remote Viewer. I was originally trained by Ingo Swann himself, who is known in RV circles as the one who invented the RV protocols. He and Dr. Harold Puthoff were the very first to put this activity into a teachable format. At first I worked for the U.S. government but then went into private practice working on FBI cases. I quit the government intelligence agency because some of the things they were asking me to do were violent assaults on my conscience and I finally just said no and moved on. I contracted with the FBI. There, I helped solve many tough cases, including murder, kidnapping and other crimes. My greatest success was in helping stop a very bloody gang of domestic neo-nazis in their tracks. When the Red Chinese invasion occurred, it took almost everyone by complete surprise. That’s because they would never listen to what I and several other remote viewers had been telling them for four years. They said it must be analytical overlay, paranoid imagination, and was far too fantastic to be believed. The night of the invasion I went underground. Due to the covert nature of my profession, the Red Chinese have not been able to uncover any of my past records so far and so I am, at least for the moment anonymous.”

“That’s good,” said Martin, “but like all of us you are still in plenty of danger.”

“Correct. There are four of us here in Riverview that have been practicing RV. We do not contact each other directly. In a sense we are an underground within the underground but since Bill doesn’t even believe that RV is valid, his patriots, who seem to follow him almost like cadres, will probably leave us alone. We do have a method of passing the intelligence we gather but we are... shall we say... selective as to what we pass and to whom. Bill isn’t the only one. I feel this is necessary considering that someone in the resistance is working directly for the Chinese Reds.”

“Are you sure?”

“Absolutely sure.”

“Do you know who it might be?”

“We have our suspicions.”

“What can you do about it?”

“If we expose him, everyone dies because the watch and wait game being played by the mole would be finished and the whole underground here in Riverview arrested, including you and I. Then, probably the three other remote viewers on my team would be arrested also, even though they never attended any of Bill’s meetings. I don’t know if I could resist torture or would even have time to take that cyanide pill Bill gave us, even if I could get myself into that suicidal frame of mind.”

“I sure understand that. Can the problem be handled... internally somehow?”

“We are working on that but it will take some time. We do not yet know precisely who it is and that presents a problem.”

Here it is, Martin thought, more entanglement. But, it seems there is no way to avoid it.

“Martin,” Courtney said, “I want you to be able to overcome your fear and not be in constant stress about this terrible situation. It is what it is. We didn’t ask for it, but here we are, fully caught up in it. Now, we have to find good ways of dealing with it in a calm and effective manner. And that’s what we believe Remote Viewing can be. It is... unobtrusive and, as far as we know, operates completely outside the Red Chinese paradigm that those here so rigidly believe. They are in many ways exactly like Bill and scoff at anything leaning toward, what one might call, ‘esoteric’ or ‘mystical.’ However, there is nothing ‘mysterious’ about RV as you will see. It is pure science.”

“What can you tell me about RV right now, even before I read the manual?”

“I’ll do that presently, Martin, but first tell me something about yourself.”

For some reason unknown to Martin, he was feeling such full trust in Courtney that he opened up. He told him all about himself, his feelings, his desires, his fears, his hopes and his dreams. He finished by telling Courtney his dream about his co-worker Grace. When he finished, he saw Courtney smiling slightly and nodding his head in approval.

“Martin... you are already remote viewing and you don’t even know it.”

“What? You mean... you mean that dream may have contained real information?”

“There is no doubt,” Courtney said.

“How the hell do you know that? What part of it do you think was real information?”

“You discerned that she is still alive. It is one of the easiest things for remote viewers to pick up. I have done it many times when we were working on child-kidnapping cases. You discerned that Grace is still located in the group-home and you discerned that everyone there is suffering, but still alive.”

“How do you know that to be real information?”

“As you were telling me your dream, I was gnosing it. I was interconnected with you and with the situation. There is an intense connection between you and Grace. You two are highly interfaced. You see Martin, emotions play a very great part in energizing you physically to do remote viewing. All of your body cells and neurons are brought to full alert as the proper psycho-physiological state comes into being. It is your intense respect and love for Grace that vectors your intention powerfully to view the situation. It is a heart matter, Martin. You simply must know what is happening to the people you love. You must. And so you do.”

“But Courtney, I have no training, not even a very clear idea of what remote viewing is or how it works.”

“That doesn’t matter. And, exactly how it works is a mystery to all of us. All human beings are born with the neurological equipment they need to do it. We discovered this and it floored some scientists because everyone had just assumed that it was some kind of special psychic talent. The process must be learned but it is not a special talent nor gift only for certain people. You see, it is something entirely natural. It is a part of what homo sapiens sapiens is and always has been.”

“That’s amazing. I sure didn’t know that.”

“Shamans have done RV for millennia. But, it is not super-natural nor is it in any way extrasensory. It is only assumed to be a special gift until you realize what it really is. It is what we call ‘gnosing’ or ‘groking’ a situation.”

“Like... having intuition about something?”

“Yes. We literally interface with the energy going on. You and Grace have already been interfaced energetically for a long long time which is proven by your telepathy on the job and the wonderful bond between you.”

Martin fumbled for another American Spirit. “Do you mind if I smoke?”

“Not at all. Here. You can use this saucer as an ashtray.”

Everything Courtney was saying so far made sense to Martin and just then as Courtney was speaking, he could feel in his heart an intense connection with Grace and also Laura, his children, the folks at the group-home and several other people and situations. He felt more connected with some than with others. He noticed that the more he turned his attention toward them, the more he seemed to tune into their energy. It was not something unusual but something which he had not quite noticed before. Martin gave voice to Courtney about what he was feeling, explaining it as best he could.

“You are right on track,” said Courtney. “You are already a remote viewer who understands some of the basic principles, although you hadn’t started putting it all together until right now.”

“That’s it exactly,” said Martin. “Tell me a little more about this.”

“Okay. Remote Viewing is what we call psychoenergetics. You discover how to get yourself into the proper psycho-physiological state in order to remote view successfully.”

“How does one do that?”

“First by meditation.”

“I learned Transcendental Meditation years back but never really followed through with it like I should have.”

“That doesn’t matter. You learned TM. I did also. Any form of genuine meditation works. Now, you simply pick up where you left off. You begin to practice twenty minutes in the morning and twenty minutes in the evening using the mantra you were given, or a better one if you can find one. It doesn’t matter. You need no more than twenty minutes morning and evening. This process will immediately begin to work on your nervous system to calm you down and unwind the kinks of tension that you have gradually built up through daily angst and worry. These hinder the RV process.”

“What else?”

“Music. Just sing your favorite song. It doesn’t matter if you can sing well. It is the sound vibration that does the job. Pick a song that means a lot to you and one that moves you deeply.”

“What do you mean the sound vibration does the job?”

“It loosens up your body cells. Humming is very good also. Combined with the emotional enjoyment of the song, you become... more energized and more focused also. We call such focus your vector intention. It involves your cognitive mind, your willful and intense desire and your strong emotions. Emotions such as the bonding of appreciation and love. This combination is a strong interface.”

“It sure is. That’s a lot. Is that all, besides understanding the material in the manual?”

“Almost. Yes, learn the protocols that the manual will teach you. They work. That’s why the government spent millions on the Remote Viewing project.”

“I certainly intend to do that.”

The RV protocols will teach you to deal with what we call ‘analytical overlay.’ We use the term, AOL. That is when the real information is superceded by your creative but fantastical imagination. You know, when your imagination just trips out and goes down a rabbit trail?”

“Yeah, it used to happened every morning between getting on my left boot and my right but not now since... I no longer have any time. This will definitely take some... meditation and contemplation.”

“Yes. And, what I’m giving you right now is far more than what most remote viewers get at first. This is a crash course because of the dire situation. But, seeing that you are already deeply involved in RV, although you didn’t know it, I sense that you are already groking much of what I am telling you. Your cognitive understanding of it only has to catch up. You learn remote viewing by remote viewing the information being taught.”

“You know, Courtney, I think that indeed I may be. It is such overwhelming information that... in a deep sense I understand it but my cognitive thinking needs to work on it.”

“Exactly. Listen Martin, everything that comes into your senses is energetic. All is energetic waves. Your cognitive processes and the information already contained in your memory processing grids absorbs the incoming energy and a process begins."

“You know, Courtney, I think I can do this.”

“I know you can Martin. I have no doubt. You are already doing it. I have given you a lot and it will take some time for you to fully process. I could never have explained all these things if you were not receptive. You are. It resonates with your inner being. For example, if I were to explain this to Bill or some others, they wouldn’t have the slightest idea of what I was talking about.”

“No, they probably wouldn’t being so absorbed with wanting to die for their country.”

“Now. There is one more very important thing. RV is teamwork. Teamwork. This is how we find out if the information you have gained is true or false. This is how we support and check up on each other. This is how we discover if some of the information is fantastic AOL or is true information gained from the interface with the target. And this is what I and three others here in Riverview have already been doing ever since the Red Chinese invasion.”

“Well, how do you find out what the other person found out in their personal RV session?”

“Very good question. In fact, that is logically the very next question. (Your cognitive logic is pretty good.) This shows me that perhaps you have understood more of what I have been saying than you thought you did.”

Courtney reached up on a shelf and handed Martin a little cardboard box. When Martin looked inside he saw a small size tape recorder.

“Martin,” said Courtney, “these little tape recorders are how we record the information we receive from our RV sessions. We just speak into the recorder during the session. We pass the tapes on to one another by way of drop-off and pick-up points. They are located around Riverview in various wooded areas just off the streets. The tiny tapes are sealed in a plastic bag and deposited at one of those points. The other party picks it up, takes it home and listens to it.”

“Is that dangerous?”

“Everything we do now is dangerous. But these drop-off points have so far proven to be totally safe. When you are a little further along, I will demonstrate to you where and what to do. I get everyone’s reports and I give feedback as to what was accurate and what was not and what was iffy. This helps us to hone our skills. That procedure is best left for another meeting between us. Unlike Bill, I will say ‘hi’ to you when I see you. The Red Chinese cannot stop friendship, although they might like to. It is a human right which I will not relinquish.”

“Me neither.”

“Good. We are on the same frequency, Martin. And, although we will not be seeing much of each other face to face, we will meet again soon. I will want to know how you are doing with this. When I think you are ready, I will give you some coordinates to gnose. To grok. You will find out how that works when you read the manual.”

“Can you tell me what you mean by coordinates?”

“Later, you will find out how those are arrived at. But, for now suffice it to know that many times you will be given coordinates connected with the target but you will have no idea what the target is. That is helpful in not flooding it with your AOL. We call that RVing blind."

“So, I will only have the coordinates but not know what the target is?”

“Correct. That’s when you are remote viewing blind. It helps in cutting down on AOL. But when a target is front-loaded, the RVer knows exactly what the target is and we use both methods. I will explain more about these later. Right now, you have some personal front-loaded targets that you would like to gain information on. Okay. Take this tape recorder, learn the protocols first, meditate, sing, practice the lessons provided in the manual and then do your own RV sessions. Always remember to record your sessions including the practice sessions. Be sure and do those. They are blind RV sessions coordinate driven. And, as the manual will tell you, get a good pen and lots of blank paper. That should be no problem. It seems that the Chinese love to supply us with writing materials hoping that we will write a confession, an autobiography or something. They are always looking for something not politically correct to hold over you. You will be drawing lots of pictures also. It doesn’t matter how good of an artist you are but as time goes on you will get better. I will later show you how to leave a tape at the drop-off points and we will put the other RVers on your personal targets blind. You will also be put on theirs. When all the information is analyzed, a picture with a high percentage of accuracy finally emerges.”

“That is excellent,” said Martin, “when should I come by again.”

“Within two weeks would be good. Or, whenever you feel that you are ready or have a question which the manual does not answer for you. And, as you go along, write down or memorize the questions you have. Many questions will undoubtedly come up.”

“Excellent. Oh... by the way Courtney...” Martin pulled the little cardboard container holding the cyanide capsule out of his pocket, “I do not feel that I have a moral right to ever take my own life, no matter what. This little cyanide capsule is so dangerous that I don’t know how to safely get rid of it. What should I do?”

“You know, Martin, I feel the same way. I do know how to neutralize these. It is a two stage chemical process that requires bleach and lye both of which I have. Leave yours with me and I will take care of them both.”

“Thanks Courtney, this relieves me of a real burden because in the right circumstances, I would indeed be tempted to use this damn thing. I am glad you feel the same way and I appreciate your help in getting it out of my sight. Will it take you long to do?”

“No, the chemical reactions required are finished in twenty four hours and I will see that it is done in some hidden spot outside in a wooded area near here.”

“Is it safe for you to do?”

“Sure, no problem. I minored in chemistry and have done this before with industrial KCN powder. Taking care of this for you will help me quit procrastinating and do the right thing with mine also.”

“Okay then, I leave this little pill with you and thanks again.”

Martin felt good for the first time in weeks. He hadn’t realized how heavy that little cyanide pill was. Apparently, it had been really burdening him down more than he thought, since Sunday morning when Bill distributed them.

Courtney put some tapes, extra batteries and plastic sealers into the little tape recorder box and Martin slipped it into his pocket and walked home. Courtney didn’t have to mention that he should hide it well. This box is a little bigger than the other one, but much lighter indeed. Tomorrow it would be back to the greenhouses to put on some finishing touches and erect a few more. That craft is supposed to arrive sometime. As he walked hurriedly, he glanced down at the manual in his hand. I will be up late tonight.

He barely made it home before the 9:00 curfew set in. The horn went off just as Laura let him through the door.
